Neadeen capitalizes on the unique qualities of Traditions multi media paint system to create wonderful translucent and transparent effects making these traditional watercolor techniques very easy to learn, even for the beginner! Neadeen takes you through the basic watercolor supplies and demonstrates the painting 'stages' for each of the following four designs.

Watch Neadeen as she shows you her layering techniques, applying thin transparent washes of pigments to create three dimensional form and depth of colour.

Neadeen shares several of her watercolor tips; working on light as well as dark backgrounds and shows how to achieve looser backgrounds for colour balance within the overall composition.

Learn how to soften edges and create details, how to achieve rich hues and interesting accents and embellishments for watercolors.

Neadeen takes a simple approach to teaching watercolors and begins with techniques which fill the students 'tool kit' while still creating designs that are interesting and at the same time progressive in skills.

'Trinity of Roses'  ~  Create full blown roses, viewed from the front as well as the side profile. While painting this 'old styled' botanical spray, students are able to see the detailed, up-close demonstrations of 'wet in wet' and 'wet on dry' traditional watercolor techniques. Transparent washes and glazes are used to describe the warm dramatic colours of these roses and create the supporting leaves. Work with a limited palette and watch as Neadeen adds the final details such as honey bees and soft colour accents to carry colour and interest throughout this design.

'The Fountain' ~ Neadeen takes another approach - as she combines painted roses with simple garden architecture to render another traditional design. By adding the climbing roses to a lattice, she incorporates the roses from the first painting lesson to now embellish this charming garden landscape. The addition of the garden scene adds atmospheric depth to the composition. Learn to apply and control casual and controlled washes to achieve this effect. Watch Neadeen create the water-fountain with fun wipe out techniques.

'Sun Kissed Apples' ~ Techniques for leaf tufting and texture are introduced in the third lesson and a lighter value mottled background adds visual texture to create this new composition. Learn to use casual 'wet in wet' techniques to create atmospheric depth and build form while learning to create the characteristics of mature apples and leaves. This design demonstrates how bright pigments can be balanced within a simple composition. Layering techniques are used to control the flow of color as well as create rich hues.

'Wild Rhododendrons' ~ Create stronger contrast between a rich, darker  background and the white of the watercolor paper. In the fourth design of this DVD set, observe how 'charged' colour creates the soft ruffled details of petal edges as well as the characteristics of the larger leaves. Translate and transfer techniques from one design to the next, at the same time building your watercolor skills for the future.
